Our 4m x 5m pod kit is very popular

DIY office pod kit 4m x 5mWe’ve had a huge number of customers complete their backyard building projects with one of our Backyard Pod 4m x 5m flatpack kits. Whether for a DIY building project, installed to lockup, or completed, the 20sqm option is very popular. Often exempt in NSW as a non-habitable room up to 20sqm, our 4m x 5m building is also often approved for occupation as a bedroom with ensuite and kitchenette, home office, pool house, backyard cabin, or studio with/without facilities.

See here one of our most popular gallery examples – a much-loved home office for two people with beautiful views and room for a sofa, coffee-making, etc. This was done as a DIY project by the husband of our customer but you could have something like this or your own style built for you, starting with our flatpack kit for versatility and cost-saving.

Start with your basic flat-pack pod kit

You can choose from our recommended range of double-glazed windows and doors or use any kind you like, even timber-framed. If you choose from elsewhere, tell us the opening sizes and we can supply your lintels. Otherwise, if you’re getting your Backyard Pod installed for you, your builder might like to supply the windows and doors.

Payment:  Fabrication will commence when your 50% deposit is received. We do not accept deposits until your order specifications and delivery costs are confirmed. Contact us for current lead times in your area, terms and conditions, etc.

Get installation if you want it done for you

We don’t install pod kits directly, which de-risks your project. For your peace of mind, any warranties on your completed building are provided by licensed builders in your area with their own insurance as required by your state regulations. In most locations, we know experienced installers and licensed builders to help with your pod building and other requirements. You can get installation done to the lock-up stage, and finish the internals yourself. You can also get your entire project completed for you. Just ask us and we can probably help with your requirements. You could get local tradespeople to do the job for you by following the instructions. Alternatively, many of our customers are doing DIY building projects or acting as owner-builders to manage their projects. It’s up to you. We can help you save and achieve your dream any way you like.

Need something different? Get a custom quote

Installers and builders can help you with all kinds of customisations – even joining two large pods together to make an L-shape or whole house! Construction with our flatpack building kits is often half the cost of conventional construction methods. Get your builder or architect to specify your modifications and within reason, we can help.

Great for DIY builders and owner-builders

Countless people have successfully completed their own backyard building projects using our flatpack kits. If you have the right tools and previous building experience, you will love the ease and precision of our pre-engineered steel fabrications. Even as an owner-builder, handling your trades, you will find your whole project much easier to manage and control using our flatpack building kits as your basic structure and taking it from there. If you like DIY but don’t have time to undertake construction, you can get installation done to the lock-up stage and then save by completing your interior fit-out DIY. Some customers involve family and friends in their projects too.

Check first if approval is needed – we can help

While many Backyard Pods are successfully completed without needing approval, it depends on your intended purposes and relevant regulations. The regulations for habitable backyard studios and granny flats can be straightforward for some property owners and more complex for others. It’s your responsibility to ensure that whatever you’re doing in your backyard is compliant with the regulations that are specific to your property and intended purposes. If you’re not sure about what you can or can’t build at your place without approval, we can give general advice for starters. We can also help with low-cost professional assistance if your project will need approval.

Suitable for certification as a granny flat

When erected according to the instructions, the engineering specifications of Backyard Pods comply with the Australian building code as being suitable for certification as a habitable dwelling (eg: granny flat, guest cabin, primary residence, etc). This is important to know because not every building or assembled building kit will meet the requirements for an occupancy certificate. There are no such issues getting genuine Backyard Pods approved or certified for occupancy anywhere in Australia. With Backyard Pods, you know you are getting a trusted Australian-made product that has been successfully proven for many years.
